Marwest owns Ashbury Place, located at 299 Queen Street. Unfortunately, the building is plagued with bed bugs—but it's kept a secret. Piles of mattresses and furniture are visible in the back, and when we discovered them we moved out immediately. After sending Marwest videos of all the bugs that were swarming despite exterminator visits, I had to fight to get out of my lease. By law, they are supposed to inform everyone on our floor and those above/below us when there's an infestation; however they did nothing! So I began going door-to-door telling people what was going on, which is when I started noticing other tenants throwing out furniture as well. Unaware that all the garbage behind the building was contaminated with bed bugs, others would take furniture from it—I even saw a brand new IKEA couch taken back inside after discarding it myself! Although these apartments are beautiful and we had a great time living there before this issue arose, Marwest's handling of such a terrible infestation is criminal and disgusting; prompting me to avoid shared buildings in the future.

This is not a place worth renting; the maintenance is clearly behind, and the office hours have been changed to an inconvenient 2-6 Monday-Friday. Calls from last week regarding cockroaches have gone unanswered; there is a lack of proper management. If they don't fix this problem, I will either be taking them to the renter's board or vacating when my lease ends. It's hard enough dealing with this while pregnant without having to deal with their dodging and avoiding me as well.

Living here for the last four years, I have had cockroaches twice (the building is enduring a difficult roach problem) and my bike was taken out of the parking spot that was allocated to me. The rent is very high in comparison to how the building and apartments are maintained, all in the name of being 'pet friendly'. Additionally, using the card-op laundry costs a lot. The only advantage I can think of is that utilities are included in rent and we never run out of hot water.
