I received one star due to having to, but I would definitely not recommend Central Tower as a place to rent. I was moving out due to work transfer and found the managing staff incompetent and punitive. Despite leaving my unit cleaner than when I moved in, with hardly any wear and tear, they charged me over $300 for painting (which wasn't done before I moved in) among other items. According to the Alberta Residential Tenancy Act, this should have been considered normal wear and tear. The individual who did the move-out inspection commented on how clean it was too. Moreover, when I requested early termination of my lease agreement, there was difficulty explaining what needed to be done as the building manager seemed not to understand her own lease agreement! It required calling head office downtown Edmonton who confirmed what should be done according to their lease agreement which eluded the on-site manager who then apologized afterwards. All in all, it was an awful experience due to poor understanding of their own agreements by managing staff coupled with underhanded tactics during move-out that ended up costing me money for no valid reason - thus never again!
I've been living in Central Tower for almost ten months and I'm delighted with my suite, the facilities, and the personnel. Working from home because of Covid-19 has been a blessing since I have an amazing view of downtown from my "home office". The building's managers and staff are always friendly, polite, and attentive. They've asked me if I'm content with my suite and any troubles have been addressed quickly with courtesy. Even though there have been some small issues as would be expected in a new building, the management has welcomed feedback from other tenants to make decisions that affect us all. Generally speaking, the construction is top notch, it's superbly situated especially for those using LRT to commute; it feels safe and secure plus it is pet-friendly which is incredible for a luxury flat. Hosting friends in this great home of mine is something I truly appreciate; looking forward to many more years here at Central Tower :-)
Having lived there for a year, I can confirm all the 1-star reviews; I'd go as far as to give it 0 stars. The building looks nice but that's where the niceties end. The management and maintenance staff are only there to collect money and are unprofessional and rude. When I hired a cleaning company for move out, they charged me hundreds of dollars for minor issues, even charging me for paint peels caused by normal wear and tear. Their electricity bills were expensive and not transparent either. Additionally, the rent is incredibly high given the small living space with just okay amenities - nothing like what's advertised on their site. After requesting repairs of closet/lighting fixtures, no one followed up with me despite sending multiple emails; kitchen lighting was especially an issue since cooking at night without any light was impossible! The property manager always forgot or seemed clueless about his job duties - echoing other reviewers' sentiments that you should save your time/money and avoid this place at all costs!
I would give this building a negative rating if I could. Do not move in--it is not luxurious as advertised. In two years, there have been more than five changes in property management staff. We lived in a penthouse suite for two years; however, having people stalk us and multiple robberies occurring made us decide to leave after our lease ended. To make matters worse, upon leaving we were presented with an outrageous $3,000 bill for cleaning AFTER we professionally cleaned the unit--we are now having to argue with them for a revised amount four months later and still have not been able to get rid of them yet. Michael Surkovic has no power over the companies he hires as asset manager, making it quite evident that this building is a huge scam and an incredibly hazardous place to live; anyone who has gone through break-ins can attest this is true (one person was even trapped inside their apartment while someone attempted breaking in). The units are cheaply constructed with almost all of them having issues such as windows not being sealed properly for an Alberta winter; we had our dryer and washer replaced four times! Again: DO NOT LIVE HERE!
