I was completely unaware of how terrible managing a property would be until I rented one. We moved from California and were given an apartment that was substantially outdated compared to what we were informed about. When we expressed our disappointment, the office lied and said there were no remodeled apartments available - only for us to then find out that there was a newly renovated unit across from us. After this, they asked what they could do to improve it and we requested new appliances - all of which were dated. They only replaced the dishwasher and told us the washing machines and dryers were sanitized on a regular basis, though this turned out to be false as they always malfunctioned with an unpleasant smell. The seal on our bay window had broken, making it hard for us to see through it; when I brought up the issue, I was treated as if I didn't know what I was talking about until I insisted that someone come take a look at it. Another window in the living room wouldn't close properly so instead of replacing it, they just drilled in a screw so we could force it shut. The screens didn't even fit correctly leaving gaps for mosquitoes to enter during summertime - their solution being duct tape around them!
