I've been living here for a few years so don't hesitate to ask me anything about this space. Maintenance and grounds personnel are fantastic, friendly and proficient - an advantage over owning a home. The swimming pool is decent in size, offering a pleasant spot to socialize with neighbors though it's not always neat. Location is pretty convenient - you can get to the essentials in 5-10 minutes (on condition that you rent an apartment away from the highway).
Now here's the thing: I wouldn't suggest this complex anymore. Management doesn't care about keeping tenants contented after they sign a contract; instead, it feels like they'd be thrilled if occupants departed so that new ones could move in at higher rates. For instance, they will tell you straight up that they have no time for you. Furthermore, the property has been deteriorating during the last year - soap isn't available in public restrooms; gas balloons by grills aren't refilled; air conditioning is absent from clubhouse; trash ends up in hallways; people smoke on premises and park cars on disabled spots at night with loud engines running . It's apparent that management does not care anymore as there appears to be no oversight from corporate regarding property management I've been living here for a few years so don't hesitate to ask me anything about this space. Lastly, office workers never followed COVID rules of state & city (although again maintenance crew was great as always).more ...hide ...

Clairmont at Hillandale has some bad reviews, which is unfortunate because my experience living there was nothing short of great. It's an ideal spot for Duke students or those working at the University Hospital since it's only a 6-10 minute drive away. I lived there for two years during school and hospital rotations and found it to be perfect. Pros included the spacious, reasonably priced apartments that had balconies with nice finishes; a peaceful atmosphere with plenty of green space, lighting in parking lot, and free resident/guest parking; good amenities like pool, playground and gym; friendly staff who responded quickly to requests; easy access to highway so you can get around Durham in 20 minutes or less. Cons were traffic noise (depending on building), build up of trash/recycling near disposal area, gates breaking down frequently (sometimes taking days/weeks/months to repair). All in all I highly recommend this apartment complex if you're looking for an affordable place in North Durham!
