Chris gives his highest recommendations for the 3-night Kayak Lodge Getaway tour at Read Island lodge, hosted by Ralph and Lannie. He and his wife, along with another couple, went there to celebrate his 50th birthday. Chris and his wife have limited kayaking experience but they were still able to enjoy the tour due to the friendly hospitality of their hosts, professional guides (Will, Albert and Jo), incredible meals prepared by Lannie using fresh produce from her gardens and seafood, as well as excellent quality equipment provided. During their two day trips they saw marine life such as eagles, porpoises, seals and Humpback whales; even a couple of whales seemed interested in them! The property itself is set on 100+ acres with creeks and rocky outcrops which make for a perfect setting for kayaking. Amenities include wood-fired hot tubs overlooking the bay as well as wood-fired saunas with cold pools nearby for dipping after use. Outdoor showers are also available onsite. Their last evening was spent kayaking around Evans Bay near the lodge post sunset where they witnessed bioluminescence caused by paddle strokes in addition to stars planets and Milky Way forming a magical night sky above them!
