I've been living in one of the "handi-adapted" units at Parkdale since 2014. The building is wheelchair accessible, but my own suite has a big, heavy door that can be challenging to open alone. This is subsidized housing through Capital Region Housing and they're the first place to apply if interested - there are many different sized apartments available with balconies too, and small pets are allowed with an extra fee on your security deposit as well as an additional monthly parking fee. The neighborhood may not be great but there's a solid security system and everyone follows the rule of not letting strangers into the building. My neighbors, who come from various backgrounds, have always been friendly and helpful - especially when I'm disabled as they'll assist me with doors or carrying bags or even holding elevators. There's also a washer/dryer on every floor which you can top up money in at a machine on the first floor though it can get busy so I tend to take my laundry to nearby laundromats for multiple loads at once.
