I live in a recently renovated loft apartment that sounded great, but soon after I moved in, the problems started. There were small mistakes throughout such as paint splatter on stairs and door frames, a stained carpet and missing baseboard corners; however, these are minor issues compared to what I have faced. The air quality has been my top concern - in winter it was very difficult to keep warm and my electric bill skyrocketed to over $400 while I was away for 10 days. Maintenance had to make emergency visits due to my shower leaking into apartments below me and they left a rough patch on the bathtub when they scraped off a bubble; now it's too uncomfortable for baths. Other problems include black residue staining tubs from rubber pipes eroding, dishwasher not working properly, marijuana odours from neighbours and sparks coming from bathroom socket. All things considered, I'm ready to leave this apartment behind - though there are some positives like location, quietness of the area, helpful maintenance staff and decent size with beautiful spiral stairs design.
When we first moved to Marina Shores, it seemed like the perfect place; minutes away from the beach, local restaurants and bars, as well as First Landing State Park for our dogs. The newly renovated apartments were a selling point for us coming from the Gulf Coast. However, after living here for a year it has become apparent that the cons outweigh the pros. Residents don't clean up after their pets; trash builds up due to an often broken dumpster; and numerous rowdy tenants (like our upstairs neighbor who jumped onto our balcony at 2am) make this place far from ideal. Our biggest issue is with leaky walls that have been unresolved despite numerous requests to maintenance and three different people looking at them - apparently an issue shared by other units due to flooding or leakage. Paying more in rent than owning a home should give you something better than water-stained walls - so future tenants of Marina Shores should look elsewhere unless they want "renovated" interiors with decorative water-stains!
