I live at the Montefiore (5885 Cavendish), and it's freezing! The hydro bills are outrageous, and even though the building was recently renovated, insulation wasn't done correctly. Everywhere you look there are gaps that aren't sealed. There have been two changes in ownership since it opened less than a year ago, and occupancy is only at 30-35%. The lobby is beautiful but don't be fooled - there's no luxury here: no gym, pool, patio or doorman; not even a roof terrace. Leaks have occurred due to improper installation of windows and the floors are made of cheap wood with concrete underneath and no insulation - making it even colder. To stay warm people are using heating pads & electric blankets while paying exorbitant hydro bills they can hardly afford. We've had to buy our own window coverings with no help from the landlord. Several washer/dryer units aren't working so laundry has to be done in empty ones or wait for technicians to arrive. Water pressure & quality isn't great either; there's an unpleasant chemical odor from pipes & neither hot nor cold extremes can be reached easily.
