I was a resident at the Elphin Apartments for 5 years. Unfortunately, I had to move out because the condition of the building deteriorated with Ric and Jan leaving. The new building managers are unapproachable and unhelpful, except for Martin who is friendly and hard-working. Contrary to what one reviewer claimed, there were many apartments that were infested with bedbugs. Thus, I urge potential tenants to be cautious when considering renting here; it may look like a good deal but remember that lower prices usually mean lower standards.
I have enjoyed occupying this location for the last three years. Many of the units have been renovated, with modern countertops, floors and water-saving toilets installed. I am pleased to report that there are no cockroaches, bedbugs or any other bugs present in the building; it is always clean and well-kept, even outside. Megan and Andrew (the superintendents/building managers) are friendly and helpful while Martin - the caretaker - is excellent too. The cost of living here is reasonable since all utilities are included in the rental fee. Additionally, my balcony was massive compared to most apartments/condos; its location was unbeatable too! I could walk to four grocery stores from here including Whole Foods, as well as catch buses 6/7 (five minute walk away) or 14 (which stops right in front). Plus, there are many parks and bike paths nearby plus Bank Street & Elgin Street which were two of Ottawa's most fascinating streets! It will be hard leaving this place behind when moving to Toronto - nothing comparable has yet been found!
