My husband and I have been living in a two-bedroom unit of the Hopkins Park Apartments for 8 months. The complex is quiet and well taken care of, allowing pets as long as they are well-behaved. There is no barking or dog feces outside our unit, likely due to management's quick response to complaints. Most people here are middle-aged or older, due to the rent control in Berkeley that enables them to stay here for years. Residents can plant flowers, herbs, etc by their doors without objection from management. We appreciate this freedom.
The apartments are quite small and require open windows per Bay area regulations; however, our peace is largely maintained by considerate neighbors who keep noise levels low - we can't hear those next door but we can hear the woman upstairs when she talks sometimes. Soundproofing would be welcome though! Our particular apartment measures 660 square feet with three utility closets (coat closet, linen closet w/ shelves & broom closet) plus two clothes closets (7ft & 5ft). We removed the door from the linen closet so we could use it as a built-in shelf & put a litter box underneath; also there's a microwave cart & rolling kitchen island plus a 3x5ft kitchen table which allows us to prepare meals easilyMy husband and I have been living in a two-bedroom unit of the Hopkins Park Apartments for 8 months.
