I have positive memories of living in Sandy Hill, going back to 2002 and 2006 when Metcalf management was in charge. I had a 2 bedroom and then a bachelor, the latter of which I loved because it was spacious with a generous balcony. Neighbors were great and the area is a world in its own; especially relevant during COVID-19 as surroundings are more important than ever. A beautiful park is only ten minutes away as well as Loblaws being five minutes away - you can't go wrong here! It may not be the most perfect building, but it was always clean and I never saw any bugs. Plus, strolling around Sandy Hill doesn't cost anything. If I could go back there again, without hesitation I would!
Approximately two weeks ago, Tricorp Realty (who manages Deauville Apartments at 363 Besserer) shut off the water with no warning. My experience is not as bad as some of the negative reviews I read, but it's still not great. No pest problems have been reported on higher floors, although it's unclear what happens on the ground level. When the water goes off without warning (which has happened numerous times since we moved in), it usually only lasts for a few minutes up to several hours - so **definitely be sure to have hand sanitizer and extra water on hand if you rent here**. Additionally, they increased laundry prices from $2.50 to $2.75 per load this year - which is by far the most expensive I've seen in any building I've ever rented from. Smaller problems can easily be fixed; however, larger issues such as mouldy cupboards under the kitchen sink are not addressed with urgency. The buzzer can only be redirected to one phone number with a 613 area code - making it difficult if you don't have that area code for your number. Despite these issues, balconies are very large and windows in apartments are great - plus they make sure to keep everything clean!
