I was hired as a temporary employee at Smith Creek Village, drawn to the work due to my genuine care for people. During my time there, I witnessed and heard about many instances of elder abuse from staff members. There were also complaints from residents about the way they were treated by the care team. For voicing my concerns, I started to be targeted by coworkers and management in an attempt to silence me. The way Baptist Housing markets Smith Creek Village is inaccurate compared to what actually goes on behind closed doors; it's terrible what I saw there. Although not all of the staff are bad, those who are good may be too afraid to stand up for residents due to fear of losing their jobs with management supporting the abuse. Despite this, I kept dedicating myself to caring for residents and putting a smile on their faces while upholding ethical and humane practices in my work with them.
